Grown on the Indonesian island of Sumatra , this Grade 1 Mandheling has many of the characteristics you'd expect from a Mandheling but with a little more refinement! Grown in the mountain basin surrounding Lake Tawar, northern Sumatra, this Mandheling has its own distinctive character with a richness and complexity, together with a chocolately finish.
Whilst our Mandheling is labeled as being dry processed on the sacks, it is really a hybrid process nearer 'semi-washed' (involving the mucilage being washed off the beans by hand before patio drying). This method of processing is believed to contribute towards the distinctive taste which has a complexity and deepness that we love, whether brewed as an espresso or filter. We roast to a medium/dark level to bring out the sweetness but so as not lose any of the distinctiveness. If you like a full-bodied coffee with character then this will be a real treat.

Our hands-on approach to coffee roasting means we roast in small batches, using only the very highest quality coffee beans we can source. We call this 'micro-roasting', and we think it makes some of the freshest and best tasting coffee you can buy.
Micro-roasting is like a coffee equivalent to a micro-brewery. What tastes better, a crafted Pilsner from a micro-brewery or a mass-produced lager? We think it's the same with coffee: big definitely isn't better. So we don't have any silos, conveyor belts, or industrial sized roasting machines at Hands-On: just a 15 kg capacity 'Joper' hot-air roaster (named Pedro, he's from Portugal), scoops and containers, a grinder, and lots of beautiful coffee.
Our aim is simple: to consistently roast and blend bloody good coffee, supplied fresh from our roastery to local customers in the shortest time possible. By meeting this simple aim we think we'll be helping to achieve something much bigger: promoting an independent coffee culture where locally roasted coffee is favoured over stale and mediocre mass-produced alternatives. Cornwall's coffee culture is then set to match its reputation for quality locally produced food.
All our coffee is freshly micro-roasted in Wadebridge, Cornwall. We never have coffee roasted for us to put inside bags with our labels (like many coffee companies do with some or even all of their coffee......)
